I appreciate it. I really don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m going to call them tomorrow and see if I can get some more time.

Mine is more carrying through on a decision I’ve made. I’m going full time at my second job and quitting my main job. It means at least a temporary cut in pay, but better benefits, work hours and prospects of advancement but I really like the team I work with now and will be sad to leave.

That’s not an easy decision.
This would be a massive increase in pay, but also a massive increase in work hours. I know this isn’t about money; I haven’t even looked at what car I would get with all that money. This is about long term happiness and better job. I don’t like my current job at all, but I think I can find another job near me, as I really like where I live.

I’ve turned down offers in the past and it is never fun. It is hard to turn down extra money but look out for your long term goals and your happiness. I wouldn’t recommend switching to something that will keep you equally unhappy. Just be confident in your decision and be polite as possible. If you decide to switch later, they will remember you as well qualified, polite, and professional. For me, I stuck with a job I absolutely hated for over year until I found something I knew would make me happy. I had opportunities to jump ship but didn’t want to be in the same situation the next year. Good luck and nice knife set :)

It’s hard to turn down a really good offer, at the same time I need to do what is best for me. I’m going to call this company in the morning and see if they can give me some more time. I’ve turned down one job already and they finished the phone call with if you change your mind, let us know. I used to work a job I hated, yes it paid for my M3 in a year, but I was miserable. I cannot do that to myself anymore. I’m going to start looking at other jobs near here.
The knife set was a gift from the parents back in 2015, it’s the same set they’ve had for 30+ years.

Trying to keep up my “no drinking during the week” plan up in the face of potential upcoming work decisions (and the general stress of dadlife and the anxiety that brings). It’s a tough battle. Suffice to say, “During the week” does not include Friday nights. Good luck bud.

Yes and yes. Waiting for a friend to get off work so we can grab drinks
Give me a quick rundown on the whole job requirements thing and I’ll take the offered oil field position for you. I can probably just wing it, right?

I’ve been trying not to drink during the week, but this hasn’t helped at all. Additionally, the fact I hate my job doesn’t help at all. It’s a struggle, I’m trying to cut back, but the events of lately have filled my mind with a litany of shit.

Nice.
The guy who interviewed me asked me very specific questions about frac, you’d have to have a lot of knowledge about frac to answer them.

I got a set for Christmas when i was in college and gave them to my brother when I moved. I just bought a new set this year. Got an open box deal for a pretty good discount. Still spent too much, but some things are worth the price.
Location is huge. Stay in the place you like and find a job you’ll like. I personally never want to go back to the oil and gas culture. But that hasn’t stopped me from looking jobs at various end users, including Saudi Aramco haha

I would go back to oil if it was an office job. That might hinder my ability to meet a female. I would like to meet someone and the field isn’t the best place for that, although I came closer to finding a girl there than I have since I’ve been here. I’m just worried if I go back I’m going to be miserable and lonely forever.

Good luck! And yeah, sometimes having a drink or two can help clear my mind a bit, too.
I’m waiting until the wife comes home before I drink. Alcohol and watching my one year old don’t mix well.
Seems like all of your options are good (but not perfect), so the question is, which one can you make the most out of, from a life goal perspective (not just $)

The oil job is better, but I might have to spend years in the field. I don’t want to do that. The real best option is to find a new job near where I am.
I’m going to talk to the oil job tomorrow and ask for some more job, at the same time I will consider the nuclear option with my current job. Give me more money or I quit; that will at least mollify me until I find better long term unemployment.

I’m about to.
I’ve a couple of rump steaks getting ready to cook.
I can’t decide on which beer though.
Bought a couple of Old Speckled Hens, one a regular ale and the other a gluten free ale, thought I’d see if there was a difference in taste between the two.
What job are you happiest doing?
Which has the most job security?
Which has more room to progress?

It hasn’t been going well for me either. Sometimes I just want to lose myself in back in the oilfield at least then I wouldn’t have to pity myself, it’s one reason I consider taking this job. I thought I met a girl down here, but it didn’t work out. Thinking about how little luck I’ve had almost makes me want to say fuck everything and return to the field.

And it’s not like I don’t know the company I’m going to, I’ve worked there for 5 years both full and part time. The people there are great too, but I will miss being part of an IT team as I’ll be a lone wolf at least for a while. I’ve been guaranteed a boost back up to what I’m making at my current full time gig by the middle of next year and paying less for much better benefits goes a long way.

I’d be wary of taking a job that will keep you in the field for years if you don’t want that. Even for big $.
You’re an engineer right? There are lots of places that can take you, long term. I’m an engineer too, but I’ve worked in finance for 12 years plus.
Engineering school teaches you great problem solving skills that are valuable just about everywhere.

I figured out how to market my transferable skills when I was looking for other jobs during my unemployment. It should be a little easier now.

The way that I did it was to find a job that required technical skills, but wasn’t really an engineering job. Field service engineer, in the marketing department. I had to work with manufacturing, sales, customers, and engineering. It was great, really. From there, I moved up in sales/marketing and eventually got my MBA in finance. An MBA is a great way to finish that transition, but I’d recommend having some idea of what you want to concentrate in first. Not really a requirement though

I’ll offer my lowly opinion. Do not take the job. Every one of your posts on the subject is some version of ‘I don’t want too but the pay is great.’ It’s a miserable reason to take a job. I’ve regretted taking the wrong job, but never regretted being happy.
Then again, I’m just some dork on the internet. My opinion isn’t that important.

Hmmm, I suppose it’s easy to be objective and dispassionate about things from the outside, but if the end goal is ‘get out of engineering and into something else’, then ‘committing yourself to another few years in an engineering job’ doesn’t sound like a step towards that goal...
